Extremely high levels of resistance to two pyrethroid insecticides, deltamethrin and ë-cyhalothrin, relative to a susceptible colony, were detected in populations collected from human dwellings in Kentucky and Ohio. Offspring of a cross between a resistant and susceptible colony had intermediate susceptibility.

The report provides a brief overview of the epidemiology, health impacts, the extent of bed bug infestations in Toronto, control strategies and outlines a plan to deal with this resurgent pest. Bed bug infestations occur in all neighborhoods and communities in the City and most households deal with the problem without assistance from the Municipality. The bed bug problems pesticide resistance against the available conventional insecticides in use today. We collected bed bugs from 20 different locations in Denmark and tested their sensitivity against chlorpyrifos, permethrin and deltamethrin; the most important insecticides registered in Denmark for bed bug control. There appears to be widespread resistance against permethrin and deltamethrin, whereas, only cases with reduced sensitivity to chlorpyrifos were found. The resistance to pyrethroids is comparable with recent results from the US and UK.
