Sambucol is  figuratively a blend of elderberry juice concentrated and raspberry juice for flavor sweetened.

As a commentator I use this product as well as over the counter bulk elderberry extract for any viral infection. Personally I have used a direct application of the extract on cold sores and found a complete remission of the sore within 7 hours.

I have made an effective  tincture of sambucus niger by using 1 qt leaves to 1 gallon water.

I have found it effective against herpes viruses and flu viruses in humans and animals, even cats.
